There was a major shock in the concluding Kevin McManus Beginners’ Chase when Treacysenniscorthy (50/1) upset the market principals to score for trainer Robert Widger and jockey Eamonn Corbett.
Rated only 100 over hurdles and well beaten on his recent chasing debut at Kilbeggan, the Beneficial gelding was never far from the lead and kept on best after the last to defeat Eclat des Mottes (6/1) and Ministerforsport (1/1 fav) by three quarters of a length and half a length.
“That was great. We gave him a run last week and he has come on a lot from it, said the winning trainer Robert Widger.
"It was a surprise as he struggled a bit last week but he improved more than we thought.
"He always showed plenty potential but has had loads of little niggly problems the whole time.
"He is my first horse and that was my second runner; I got the licence in July and only have two horses to run."
