Townend nears Championship win
Paul Townend has one hand on the prize for the Jump Jockeys’ Championship, having completed a double, completed on Killultagh Queen in the Roundfort Stores Beginners Chase, on his comeback from injury at Ballinrobe today.
Killultagh Queen had no difficulty seeing off her rivals, scoring an easy nine lengths win under Townend.
Townend later stated “my shoulder feels perfect and Killultagh Queen did that very easily. A few more winners like that would do grand!” The win moves the Co Cork rider five winners clear (78-73) of Davy Russell at the head of the Jump Jockeys’ Championship, which finished at Punchestown next Saturday.
Winning trainer Willie Mullins was himself completing a double but was not present.
