Pony-sized Tosen Wish defied a fifteen-month absence to make a winning start for Joseph O'Brien in the featured seven-furlong handicap.
Successful in a Navan sprint maiden in October 2021 for Takashi Kodama, the New Bay colt was towards the rear and had plenty to do early in the straight as JJ Jumbo held a clear lead.
The latter soon came back to the pack and Tosen Bay, who got a crucial split a furlong and a half out, began a steady run to move into contention. Despite edging right and then left, the 9/4 favourite kept on well to make a winning handicap debut, scoring by three-parts of a length from Inflection Point
For winning rider Hugh Horgan it was a fifth winner of the new year.
Horgan said: "The question with myself was if he was fit enough (after a long lay-off). He proved tonight that he is and hopefully there is plenty more improvement in him.
"He was green and behind the bridle and a little bit lazy, but he came home very well, in fairness, and picked up well for me.
"Another furlong no harm at all, he hit the line very strong."
