Limerick trainer Richard O'Brien saddled a 1, 2 in the Supervalu's Roscommon Apprentice Handicap, with Tom Dooley leading home Alans Pride
The duo were first and second in the betting, with Alans Pride going off the 6/4 favourite (9/4 last night), while Tom Dooley was 4s, on what was just his fourth start for O'Brien.
The Sean Davis ridden victor was settled behind the leaders, as Alans Pride attempted to make all under Gary Halpin.
The winner improved into second as they entered the straight, and he was ridden to challenge his stable mate with under two furlongs to race.
A great battle ensued from over a furlong out, with Tom Dooley just prevailing by a short head. Invincible Queen (16/1) completed the placings a further four and three parts of a length away in third, with Scott McCullagh in the saddle for Mark Fahey.
The winner is owned by the Ballingarry Partnership.
