After recording doubles at Limerick yesterday Tony Martin & Ruby Walsh followed up with another winner at Roscommon this afternoon as they took the Athleague Maiden Hurdle with 9/4 chance Miriam's Dream
The 6yo son of Lord Americo was having his fifth career start today and his fourth in maiden hurdle company.
He just saw off the 6/4 favourite Minella Reception for Davy Russell and John Nallen by a head after an exciting battle away from the last. Popmurphy finished fifteen lengths back in third under Niall Madden for Ross O’Sullivan at 5/1 while the Dessie Hughes trained Stoney ran a nice race on his debut to finish a further six and a half lengths back in fourth at 14/1 under Bryan Cooper.
Tony Martin said afterwards "I thought he might blow up a bit but Ruby gave him a great ride. I’m delighted as he is owned by a great bunch of lads from Dublin, which include Declan Arthurs who bred the horse."
Martin was recording his fourteenth winner of the 2012/13 National Hunt season and is now in joint fourth place with Gordon Elliott in the leading trainer standings.
