Thornton makes breakthrough on the flat
Andrew Thornton has made a good name for himself in the couple of years since he rode his first winner on Arondo at Wexford in July 2008 and he will now remember the name, Like Magic for the rest of his days, as that gelding got him off the mark on the level when capturing the www.countysligoraces.com Claiming Race by a length and a half.
Pat Martin 's market-leader was on terms from the quarter mile pole and he went on inside the last to see-off Whip Mark (bidding to give Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning a double).
Martin said afterwards: "Andrew is a very intelligent rider and he is good value for claiming five pounds off those high weights.
"Like Magic is in a good vein of form at the moment. He travelled well through the race. If we still have him he could go for a claimer at Laytown."
There were no claims lodged.
