Grey filly Wandering Star (7/1) overturned her form behind Ebaniya at Roscommon last-time out when decisively scoring in the concluding mile and a half maiden on the Curragh’s card.
The four-year-old Verglas filly closed on the leaders with a quarter of a mile to go and then struck the front at the furlong pole. Pat Smullen then pushed her out to come in clear of Global Reach (25/1) and A Star Is Born at 7s.
“She ran a good race in Roscommon where she was a bit slow into her stride. Hopefully the handicapper won’t be too hard on her. The owner (Glen Devlin) is currently in Ibiza,” trainer Dermot Weld commented afterwards.
In Roscommon on September 2nd, Ebaniya finished second in a mile and a half maiden with Wandering Star four and three quarter lengths adrift in third.
On the back of that Ebaniya was sent off the 13/8 favourite today, but she trailed in 10th of the 11 runners having been eased down with two furlongs to go. Declan McDonogh, her jockey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled.
