The Hamptons shocks in Ballinrobe opener
The Hamptons twice a winner in sprints on the level, caused a 25/1 shock on his third outing over timber and his first over jumps for 472 days in the opening Tote Placepot Race 1 To 6 Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe.
J P McManus' runner did it a bit snugly too, by half a length from Fairwood Massini Five to four favourite Westmeath could manage only eleventh. He was well-beaten when badly hampered by the fall of Theres One For You at the last.
Frank Berry, representing the winning owner said of the Niall Madden senior and junior trained and ridden victor: "That was great and he jumped great. There was a question about him getting the trip and he didn't even get seven furlongs on the flat. His jumping won it for him though."
