After winning at Gowran just last week, Knights Templar followed up this evening as he took the Weir And Sons Handicap under Danny Grant for Pat Flynn.
Sent off the 7/2 joint favourite, the six-year-old son of Trade Fair was settled towards the rear and he raced there for much of the contest before making good headway on the outer in the early straight.
He came with his challenge a furlong out and was ridden to lead close home, keeping on well to score by half a length from Truly Genius in second at 4/1 under Same James for Christy Donoghue. Edith Cowan (8/1) stayed on strongly to finish a short head back in third under Fran Berry for Charles O’Brien while the other 7/2 joint favourite, Red Laser could only manage a disappointing ninth under Shane Foley for Mick Halford.
Danny Grant said afterwards: "He is better for this ground. It brings out the best in him. He was running on soft and he is a different horse on this ground.
"He came there strongly and he did it well. If he comes out again soon hopefully he will win again."
