Tawnies Has Luck on his Side
Dooneys Gate looked an assured winner of the Waterford & Tramore Directors Chase when as a half length leader he blundered badly at the last and got rid of Ruby Walsh this leaving Tawnies to beat Hairy Molly by four and a half lengths. Line Ball was third when he crashed out at the last.
Winning trainer, Tom O'Leary said of the Philip Enright-ridden four and a half length scorer: "He could now go to Mallow on Friday for a three mile handicap chase but if we have a dry week he won't go there."
With John Cullen failing to draw the correct weight on the third-placed, Gypsy Lord he was disqualified. Tawnies therefore picked up the third and fourth placed prize-money too. (EM)
