Johnny Murtagh was in no hurry in behind the leaders travelling supremely well throughout on the Oratorio colt. Once pulled to the outer to deliver his challenge from the furlong pole, the response was impressive and the 5/4 market-leader eventually crossed the line a length and a quarter to the good from Coolnagree Wayne Lordan had to sit and suffer on that one too before eventually securing a passage down the rail and the Dark Angel filly came home well to attain the 'silver medal' position.

Ballydoyle contender Triumphant was well-backed, but he couldn't pick up like the two principals and he finished third.

The Stewards interviewed JP O’Brien, rider of Triumphant, placed third, concerning the use of the whip (Regulation 10) in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who admitted he used his whip with excessive frequency but stated he was unaware during the race how many times he had used it, and he apologised for his actions. Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion JP O’Brien was in breach of Regulation 10 2 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his recent good record in this regard into account, they severely cautioned him

Winning trainer John Oxx said: "He won well considering he's had a few setbacks. He was laid-up for a short while after his win in October and then for another three weeks in February.

"He's done well to get here but I couldn't say he lacked for fitness.

"I was worried about the heavy ground but I'd suppose it wasn't the toughest field.

"He's a talented fella and we'll try him at a mile now with the Irish Guineas likely to be his next run." (TW & EM)
