Mark Walsh produced I Knew Well with a well-timed run to record a quick double for himself and trainer Tom Taaffe at Fairyhouse today in the Winter Festival Handicap Chase.
The 2/1 favourite was settled mid-division in the 2m1f contest and survived a mistake four out when trying to take closer order.
He was driven along to challenge at the last and got on top on the run-in to record a length-and-a-quarter victory in the colours of JP McManus. Peoples Park had also carried the green and gold when taking the preceding contest.
“He came back well after a mistake at the fourth last, and on the whole he jumped well. He's followed up what he did at Naas, and stayed at it well,” said Taaffe.
"He can step up in trip in time, although when it gets softer it will make it more of a test of stamina."
