Ballyspellan Lad #8217;s fall two out when clear left Division 2 of the handicap hurdle at the mercy of Sweetheart Susan and Andalucia Lady and it was the former who took full advantage.
Paddy Mangan and Ballyspellan Lad (20/1) had cut out the running and still held a six lengths lead coming to the second last. The eight-year-old gelding though veered right and plunged to the turf depositing Mangan beside him.
Sweetheart Susan (9/1) and Andalucia Lady duly came through together to jump that flight before Sweetheart Susan and Robbie Moran powered home from the last to win by four and a half lengths for trainer Stephen Ryan. Dedoctorsdaughter at 12/1 landed third-placed money and Dr Kildare (9/1) rounded out the places in another well supported race at the western venue.
This was seven-year-old grey mare Sweetheart Susan’s first career victory. Her previous best performance came two runs back when second to Revolutionary Road at Tramore, beaten half a length in a two mile handicap hurdle.
The 11/2 joint favourites, Green Thirty Two and Ice Ice Baby were ninth and 11th respectively.
