Sweet Kiln back in a winning groove
Michael Bowe's Sweet Kiln recorded her 10th career success, and her first on the Flat, when narrowly winning the Waterford & Tramore Supporters Club QR Maiden at Tramore today.
Ridden by 20yo Brian Hayes, from Roscarbery Co Cork and riding his third winner, Sweet Kiln did not adopt her usual front-running style and Hayes was content to sit well behind long leader Annees D'Or, in a messy run race.
The pace quickened markedly only inside the final two furlongs, Annees D'Or was headed under a furlong out (eventually finishing ninth) while Sweet Kiln only arrived to head Hu Ha Jo and lead close home for a neck win.
Michael Bowe was not immediately available for comment following the win but Sweet Kiln, last seen in action when disappointing at Cheltenham in March, will no doubt strip far fitter for today's admirable battling success.
