The Norman Lee trained Pateen was a surprise 50/1 winner of the bumper at Killarney, the Jim Ryan Racecourse Services (Pro/Am) Flat Race.
Making his racecourse debut, the four-year-old son of Vinnie Roe was settled behind the leader by Lisa O'Neill.
He was pushed through to lead two furlongs out, and kept on well under pressure in the final furlong, going on to score by two and a quarter lengths. Runfordave was sent off the 5/2 favourite and he finished second under Luke McGuinness for Gordon Elliott, while Doc Picas (10/3 to 11/4) was a further three parts of a length back in third under Nina Carberry for Noel Meade.
Norman Lee said afterwards: "He is a very decent little four year old and while I only have him four weeks, his work was outstanding and he's a superstar of a horse.
"If he was sold, I'd love if he was kept with us, as he's make a super hurdler and is a real summer horse who loves good ground."
The winner was sold for just E3,800 at Tattersalls in November of 2013.
