Super Sunday Raceday at Tipperary
Tipperary’s feature meeting ‘Super Sunday’ takes place this weekend (4th October), the €55,000 Friends of Tipperary Hurdle has attracted a hot field headed by last year’s Cheltenham hero Go Native, Michael O’Brien’s Essex and Tom Cooper’s River Liane.
The Group 3 Coolmore Stud Home of Champions Concorde Stakes will once again be a competitive contest and the home defence is led by Eddie Lyam’s Duff and Jim Bolger’s Three Rocks. They will however face a stern challenge from English raider Kevin Ryan’s Advanced who was an impressive winner at Ascot last week and is ridden by the trainer’s Apprentice daughter, Amy Ryan.
The O’Dwyer Steel Like a Butterfly Novice Chase is a mouth-watering contest which sees Charlie Swan’s Emmpat bidding for a hat trick of wins over fences but he will face tough opposition from course winner Wins Now and Paul Flynn’s Archie Boy. The Tipp Supporters Club Joe Mac Nov Hurdle sees the latest appearance by Henry de Bromhead’s exciting Loosen My Load, the winner of his three starts to date. The Tipperary Co-Op Bumper also looks a competitive race with Charlie Swan’s Dunitas and Long Strand leading the charge.
Peter Roe, Tipperary Racecourse Manager said: “Super Sunday is shaping up to be an exciting days racing at the premier county track. I am delighted with the quality of declared horses for our feature day of the year. It is great to have a Cheltenham winner and some horses of outstanding promise such as Loosen my Load. The ground is currently good to firm, good in places but with the forecast of some rain tonight and on Saturday, by Sunday the ground should be lovely Summer ground”.
Since its inception Super Sunday has been honoured to have the legendary Istabraq appearing and he will once again be accompanied by the bank’s King Risk of Thunder. Tipperary Racecourse is delighted to maintain this association with this legend of racing and we are proud to be chosen as one of his few public engagements for 2009.
There will be a special racecard draw for a two-night Bed & Breakfast at the Aherlow Hotel and Lodges while there will also be a chance to win a fabulous food hamper from the sponsor’s of the Bumper Tipperary Co-Op. There will be plenty of children’s entertainment and the popular Agri-Aware farm will once again be in attendance when their turkey will once again be roaming around the enclosure.
Admission: - There is a special family ticket for €25 for 2 adults and at least 1 child. ALL children Under 18 are FREE.
The first race on the day will be at 2.15pm and gates will be open from 12.15pm.
