Jake Coen teamed up with his uncle Andy Slattery to gain a last gasp victory with Sunset Nova in division one of the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap at Dundalk.
The 16-year-old has made great strides already in his fledgling career losing his 10lb claim in the last week and was seen to great effect here.
King’s View made a valiant attempt to make all under Chris Hayes and indeed many thought he’d just held on as they flashed past the post.
However, the photograph showed that Sunset Nova had just got up right on the line to defy top-weight at odds of 100/30.
Caesar’s Comet kept on into third a further length and a half back.
Slattery said, “I’ve had a load of horses running well in the last few weeks so it’s grand that one has put their head in front.
“He spread a shoe coming here and it’s all thanks to the farrier at the track, John McAteer, as a few hours ago I didn’t think he would be running.
“He’ll tip away here for the winter and has won five now. He’s a good little servant.
“I’d say he’s better over seven and I wanted to run him in the second race here but he got balloted out. This race suited him as they went hard.
“Jake has made a great start and is doing really well.”
