The Stewards at Fairyhouse held running and riding enquiries into five horses today, four of which were owned by Champion Owner J.P. McManus, and while three of the performances were merely 'noted', action was taken in the case of the Tony Martin trained Bobbi's Diamond and Pat Fahy trained Shantou Ed
Martin and Fahy were both fined E1,000 for the performances of their charges with respective jockeys Philip Enright and Alan Crowe each receiving seven day suspensions and both horses receiving 30 day bans.
Bobbi's Diamond carries the colours of Deborah Breslin while the remainder Shantou Ed, Blow The Doors Off Stakes Wallace and Uaintseenothingyet raced in the McManus silks.
The Stewards' Report from the day's racing reads:
327A Auld Stand/Kellys Pub Beginners S'chase
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Blow The Doors Off (GB), ridden by N.P. Madden, and trained by Conor O'Dwyer. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. N.P. Madden, stated that his instructions were to jump off mid-division or closer, to try and get the horse jumping well and finish best he could. He added that the horse jumped and travelled well before taking a blow and getting very tired in the closing stages. Conor O'Dwyer, confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the performance of both horse and rider. He added that the horse is only having his second run back after a long lay off and should improve for the run as a result. He also confirmed that the horse liked the ground and should appreciate a step up in trip in time. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Blow The Doors Off was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Shantou Ed, ridden by A.P. Crowe, and trained by P.A.Fahy. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. P.A.Fahy, stated that his instructions were to settle his charge in mid-division and to ensure he had a good round of jumping, bearing in mind that the horse had a bad experience on his last start at Navan. He was happy with the race until the horse made a bad mistake at the fence past the stands and lost his position. The trainer expressed his satisfaction with the ride and confirmed that he holds the horse in high regard and deems him well capable of competing at the highest level. Evidence was heard from A.P.Crowe who confirmed the instructions he received and added that the horse failed to jump well enough to get into the race. He stated that he jammed on at the first fence, was slow at the second and made a bad mistake at the fence past the stand. He added that he rode the horse out as strong as he could, without resorting to the whip, but the horse finished very tired.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Shantou Ed was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that both trainer and rider were in breach of Rule 212(a), in that all reasonable measures were not taken to ensure that the horse was given a full oppurtunity to obtain his best possible placing and having considered their clean records in this regard, the trainer was fined €1,000, Shantou Ed was suspended for thirty days and A.P.Crowe was suspended for seven race days and ordered to forfeit his riding fee.
-The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Bobbie's Diamond ridden by P.T. Enright, and trained by A.J.Martin. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. A.J.Martin, stated that the instructions were to settle the horse in mid division and to get him jumping and come home best he could. He added that the horse has a respiratory issue and has always made a noise at home and on previous runs. P.T.Enright confirmed the instructions and stated that having jumped poorly he got further back than he had hoped. He added that he gave his horse a chance in the back straight and having filled his lungs, stayed on well. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Bobbie's Diamond was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that both trainer and rider were in breach of Rule 212, in that all reasonable and permissible measures were not taken to give the horse a full opportunity to achieve the best possible place and having considered their records, P.T. Enright was suspended for seven day's and ordered to forfeit his riding fee and Bobbie's Diamond was suspended for thirty days. A.J.Martin was fined €1,000 and referred to the referrals committee having failed to report that the horse had made a respiratory noise on previous runs, in accordance with Rule 213. Mr. Robert Dore, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. Laurance McFerran acted as chairman.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations, however they were of the opinion that J.S.McGarvey was in breach of Rule 213(ii), having failed to report at the first instance that the horse had made a noise and having considered his record, cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
