The well-backed Steel Wave survived a bad mistake at the last as he justified favouritism in the Flynn & Lynch Life And Pensions Supporting Longford GAA Handicap Hurdle.
Available at 9/2 last night the Garrett Power trained gelding touched 10/3 on-course before going off the 11/4 favourite under Mark Enright.
Settled towards rear he made good progress to track the leaders before the second last.
He got the perfect run through on the inner approaching the straight and he soon hit the front.
He appeared to idle before the last and he made a bad mistake there, recovering well before going on to score by a length. Back Before Dawn (first time cheekpieces) finished second under Bryan Cooper for Sandra Hughes at 17/2 while the front-running Lisclogher Lad (20/1) was a further two lengths back in third under Stephen Gray for Sean Walsh.
