Dermot Weld and stable jockey Pat Smullen completed a treble at Leopardstown today when Starlet carrying the colours of the trainer's recently deceased mother Gita Weld, bolted in to justify 4/7 favouritism in the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
Weld and Smullen were earlier successful with both Sarafiyla and Hellenistic and following Starlet's somewhat emotional win, the 'Master of Rosewell' stated “it's quite emotional seeing this filly running in my late mother's colours as she was so looking forward to seeing this filly run.”
Weld added “hopefully she'll be able to get some black-type and she is adaptable ground-wise although that's as soft as she'd want it, and she stays well."
