Springbank continued the great run of the Johnny Murtagh yard when just getting up on the line to land the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up July 24th Handicap at Fairyhouse.
The grey son of Galileo never got involved after meeting early interference on his handicap debut at Leopardstown last month but put that behind him to justify good support here and provide Murtagh with his 16th winner of the season.
The 7/2 chance, available at 10/1 this morning, still had two lengths to make up on Charlie Bassett inside the final furlong but came home strongly under Gary Halpin to just snatch the spoils on the line.
Varna Gold was a further two and a half lengths adrift in third.
Halpin said, “That trip is the bare minimum for him. He’s a big horse and would appreciate going another two furlongs.
“He’d the form to win a race of that calibre and hopefully he can win another one or two.”
