Southern hemisphere weight allowance at Dundalk
Australian bred Boundless Joy #8217;s appearance in the [email protected] Maiden (8.50) at Dundalk tonight is noteworthy in that the filly races with an 8lbs southern hemisphere weight allowance.
The David Marnane trained filly contests the four year olds and upwards maiden despite technically being only three and a half, having been officially registered as born on July 1 in Australia.
To lighten her load, 10lbs claimer Dave Bergin takes the ride leaving the filly with just 7st10lbs to carry in the mile and a half race.
The onus is on connections to inform the authorities of any entitlement to the allowance. She previously carried more weight than necessary as connections were unaware of the weight concession for southern hemisphere bred horses.
