Smyth ends long wait
Co Antrim based trainer Harry Smyth recorded his first winner for almost seven years when castoff Cantrell landed the Hen and Stag Parties at Naas Handicap Hurdle at Naas today.
Ridden by capable seven pounds claimer Mattie Bowes, the son of High Roller eventually defeated Grove Dale to win by two and a half lengths.
Afterwards Smyth revealed “I have four horses in training and I only work with castoffs from other yards! I was given Cantrell by his previous owners and the good thing about training castoffs is at least nobody expects anything of you!”
Smyth’s last winner was Siochain at Downpatrick, September 2004.
