Pat Smullen continues to move closer to Jockeys’ Championship leader Colin Keane and secured a double at Roscommon today on the Dermot Weld trained, well backed winner Knowing You in the Murray Ambulance Maiden.
Smullen was earlier successful on the Tracey Collins trained Sollertia and produced Knowing You (7/1 on track in to 3/1) from off the pace for her win, when staying on late to beat Invincible Ryker by three parts of a length.
Knowing You, by Pivotal and out of Pat Flynn’s triple Group 3 winner She’s Our Mark, was moving Smullen on to the 57 winner mark for the season, just five winners behind Championship leader Colin Keane.
Smullen later commented “the last day (at Cork in April), five furlongs was obviously too short for her, and today showed she needed every yard of the seven to win. She’s a Pivotal filly and handled the ground reasonably well but I think a little bit better ground will suit here better.
“She’s a lovely sweet, genuine filly and hopefully she can win a handicap after this.”
