Smullen Takes Big Step Towards Fifth Title
Four-time Champion Jockey Pat Smullen moved six clear in his bid for another title when registering a near fifteen to one double at Gowran.
The brace was initiated in the 2.55. Here, Designated Decoy made it sixth time lucky and brought to an end a sequence of four second placings when stylishly getting off the mark.
The 5/4 favourite led just before the straight and there soon wasn't much doubt about the result as the Danzig colt went away to beat Liberty Eclipse by five lengths.
Dermot Weld is in Australia to supervise Profound Beauty's Melbourne Cup bid and stable representative Paddy 'Whacker' O'Brien said: "He has been unlucky and was well overdue that. I'm not sure about plans for him now but he did that well."
Smullen said of Redwater River who also scored for Rosewell House, in the October Maiden: "I always thought he'd win his maiden. This race set up perfect for him as they went a good pace."
Redwater River was shedding his maiden tag at the ninth attempt and he just prevailed by a head and a neck from Sinntaran and Rockfleet Castle
Cashmans now bet : 1/3 Pat Smullen 4/1 Fran Berry and 6/1 Johnny Murtagh.
