Slippers wins Grade 2 aboard Carthalawn
The Paddypowerpoker.com Grade 2 Newlands Chase was won by the Charles Byrnes trained Carthalawn ridden by Niall 'Slippers' Madden and owned by the Feale Good Syndicate.
Madden settled his mount in rear, made progress from 4 out, led after 2 out and kept on well to hold off Schlinders Hunt by 4 lengths.
Winning trainer Byrnes said afterwards, "He handles the ground and he didn't get the 2 ? miles at Gowran Park the last day although he ran a great race there. He's in again at Thurles on Thursday and as he's the type of horse that loves racing he could go there. He'll stay chasing for the rest of the season. We may have a look at Aintree but he won't be going to Cheltenham."
