In an eight runner maiden, starting prices of 3/1 about three runners, closely followed by a 7/2 shot, showed that punters were baffled about the finale at Sligo. As it turned out the mile and a quarter contest produced a good winner in the shape of Modista
Sam James did the steering on the once previously raced daughter of Holy Roman Emperor. Norman Ormiston owns and bred the Ballinrobe second placer, from last month. She came forward nicely from that effort to score here.
Getting to the front a furlong out, Modista, trained by Kevin Prendergast, hit the front a furlong out before going on to easily defeat Gerdago (5s into 7/2) by five lengths.
James' debrief to the press went as follows: "She stepped forward a lot from her first run when she was very green but she stayed on well late. That was a good performance." (TW & EM)
