The lead changed hands several times up the straight in the three-year-old claimer and the last to hit the front was 200/1 winner King Of The Bronx
The Dragon Pulse gelding, out of a mare by Jeremy, was probably available at much bigger odds in running as he was pushed along from early by Robbie Colgan and looked to be making no impression when ridden in mid-division early in the straight.
One by one, though, those in front of him wilted and the winner led close home to beat the Denis Hogan-trained pair Dynamite Defense and Latin by three parts of a length and the same.
“That was a surprise anyway!” said winning trainer Nigel Slevin.
“I was hoping he'd be one for handicaps. Robbie said the race fell apart in front of him and in fairness to him he stuck at it.
“We were off the bridle going up the hill on the far side but he stayed on past a few and got a bit of confidence with that. He got there in the end.
“He has schooled over hurdles already so we'll see what we can do with him.”
King Of The Bronx, owned by Rory Slevin, was claimed for 20,000 Euros and will now join Gavin Cromwell.
