Andrew Slattery moved two winners clear of Oisin Orr at the head of an enthralling Apprentice Jockeys' Championship having steered his first winner for trainer Gavin Cromwell on Yafordadoe in the Barna Recycling Handicap at Galway today.
Yafordadoe was today following up a win at the Curragh on Tuesday when beating Conversant by two lengths, moving Slattery to 43 winners for the season, two clear of chasing Orr. There are three race meetings left, Dundalk twice and Naas, before the conclusion on Sunday at the Co Kildare venue.
Afterwards Slattery said “he has to enjoy himself and you have to leave him alone early on, that's the vibe I got off him.
“Gary Carroll (winning jockey on Tuesday) was good and told me what to do and fair play to Gavin (Cromwell) for putting me back up as I've had a couple of close calls on his horses but finally I got one for him.”
