Six-up for Solo Performer
Solo Performer has been a terrific servant to Harry Rogers and his owner/breeders, the McGuinness' and the blinkered six-year-old gained the sixth success of his life in the concluding Alternative All-Ireland Handicap under Chris Hayes at Fairyhouse.
The versatile son of Distant Music came from off the pace in this mile and a half contest and delivered his run down the outside in the straight. Sonapour looked a winner as they approached the business end but he drifted a bit to his left over a furlong out giving the chasing pack a chance. Solo Performer ran on best of the rest to get up close home to deny Sonapour by half a length.
A winner from off the pace on the all-weather at Dundalk and from the front on firm ground at Down Royal, Solo Performer was winning on the much different surface of yielding to soft today and he can certainly be described as versatile.
Harry Rogers said: "It was a strong gallop and he wasn't able to go with them. He came home well on the better ground in the straight.
"Chris gave him a good ride. He has been a good old servant and we'll probably find something for him at Dundalk now."
