Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen were out of luck in the preceding event at Clonmel, with beaten odds-on shot, Creme De La but they redressed the balance in the third race at Powerstown Park. The Aga Khan's Simannka (4/6) short-headed Tonkinese in the West Gate Median Auction Race.
"Shane's horse (Foley's Tonkinese) came back at me a bit but she did it well to be fair," reported Smullen in the aftermath.
"Probably the undulations didn't play to her strengths but she battled it out well."
In the four-runner extended mile one contest, Simannka (a visor on instead of the blinkers she wore last time) got to the front a furlong out from the front-running Tonkinese.
The latter battled-on but ultimately he just came up short.
