Joey Sheridan was seen to good effect when riding out his claim aboard Timourid in the €50,000 Novibet Guineas Festival Handicap at the Curragh.
The Paul Flynn-trained gelding appeared to be caught in a pocket on the inner early in the straight but Sheridan took full advantage of a gap over a furlong out and the six-year-old gelding held off Smooth Tom by a head. Laelaps came home well to snatch third on the line a length and a half back.
Timourid, gaining his fifth career win and second since joining Longford-based Flynn last year, was yet another double-digit priced winner of a handicap here over the past 24 hours. Betterdaysrcoming also scored at 16/1 in the previous race while there were 16/1, 18/1 and 20/1 winners here yesterday evening.
Flynn said, "He's a likeable oul horse and he's been running well all year. It was sticky the last day, and we dropped him further back then on purpose but it just didn't suit him.
“He doesn't want to be in front too soon so it's hard to ride him handy but you have to. If you drop him in further he might just lose interest, he's a bit of a monkey but he's a good oul monkey.
“He's got done in a few head-bobbers and I thought he was a big price today as he's only ran one bad race this year.”
