Shareen an appropriate winner of Gowran's Group 3
Niall McCullagh very fittingly landed the Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes on Shareen as she just held the favourite She's Our Mark by a short head at Gowran.
At his local track, the Bagenalstown native, who was apprenticed to Denny Cordell Lavarack in his time, led and disputed on Shareen and she finally got to the front a furlong and a half out. From there she just did enough to hold the late thrust of She's Our Mark.
Slim O'Neill, representing winning trainer John Oxx, said: "Niall only gets himself off the cold list on Group or Listed winners for the Aga Khan! He rode Karasiyra to win the Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon in July.
"We were worried about the ground but she is very very tough and consistent. That was the plan so I don't know what's in the future for her but it is great to win a Group race with her."
