Scrapper knocks them out in bumper
Declan Queally recorded a first and last race double when Scrapper Jack landed the concluding bumper at Limerick today.
Queally had teamed up with his father, also Declan, to take the opening maiden hurdle with Lisrose
James Dullea gave the 7lb claiming amateur the leg up in the last and Scrapper Jack ran out a cosy winner.
The mare was settled behind the leaders before Queally took up the running with over six furlongs to race.
The 4/1 shot had her rivals struggling early in the home straight and kept on well when asked for an effort inside the final furlong. Kaylas Charm stayed on to grab second but could only get within three-and-a-quarter lengths of the winner.
Scrapper Jack had run into a classy looking performer on her debut at Thurles when beaten by the Willie Mullins-trained Mozoltov.
"She has the makings of being a very good mare," said Dullea afterwards.
"Three weeks today she'll come back for a mares winners' bumper at Fairyhouse. I'd like to think she'll be better on better ground.
"We were expecting a big run but we're still surprised to see her win like she did."
It was a third winner for the Bandon handler, who saddled his first with Dog Barrel Hill at the course over Christmas.
The winner is a half-sister to Philip Hobbs' smart performer Fair Along.
