Samanntom has proved a great money-spinner for connections and made it five wins in the past ten months between points and under rules when making all in the Derrygrath Novice Handicap Chase at Clonmel.
The nine-year-old gelding jumped well out in front, and kept on well in the straight under Mark Enright to beat Blazing West by three lengths.
The pair stretched all of 28 lengths clear of Blackwater Bridge in third.
Winning trainer Aidan Fogarty said, “He jumps a lot better when he’s making the running, and it was an inferior race to the one he ran in last Sunday. He likes that ground, and he won two point-to-points in that kind of ground. He jumps well out of it which some horses find hard.
“My son says he’s a three miler. In very dry conditions maybe he is but he has enough gears for two (miles). Two one or two miles and two (furlongs) is probably his perfect trip.”
