Sam Causes a Shock
He cost 230,000 Euro at Tattersalls Ireland in June 2006, he is a half-brother to Snoopy Loopy from a real good family, he came down when up with the gallop on his only point-to-point start but despite having this to recommend him on paper, Sam Adams was dispatched a 50/1 shot for the www.fairyhouseracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle.
Equipped with a tongue-strap and with Alain Cawley in the plate, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned six-year-old jumped to the front at the last and went on to account for the favourite, Uimhiraceathair by a length and a half. The well-backed Lismakeery (3s in the morning into 7/4) was a length back in third whilst there was nineteen lengths back to Mister Matt a 7/1 shot in the same colours as the winner.
Winning trainer, Paul Nolan said: "He has had his problems; he has been through the mill. He was brought down in a point-to-point with a circuit to run and has had bits of trouble since, but he is sound as a trout lately. He has been working better at home, and being by Presenting he'll be better on better ground. He is very well bred being a half-brother to Snoopy Loopy." (EM)
