Russell picks one day suspension
The Stewards interviewed Davy Russell, rider of Luska Lad winner, concerning the use of the whip from the second last hurdle in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that he had breached the guidelines with regard to the use of the whip, but stated that he put down his whip approaching the last when passed by the eventual runner up, but picked it up again after jumping the last when he realised the race was there to be won and his mount kept responding for pressure.
Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Davy Russell had used his whip with excessive frequency and suspended him for 1 raceday.
