Davy Russell will have left Tramore with a smile following what must have been a trying day for the Champion Jockey, scoring a win on Thats The Dream in the concluding Tom Carroll Memorial Handicap Chase.
Russell, who registered his 1,000th winner over Christmas, was yesterday effectively sacked as retained jockey by Gigginstown House Stud and just an hour before Thats The Dream's win, partnered his last horse in that role: Roi Du Mee which finished runner-up in the Listed Chase.
Following Thats The Dream's success, winning trainer Robert Tyner said “Davy rode plenty of winners for me in his youth and I have no doubt he'll bounce back as he's a brilliant jockey.”
Regarding Thats The Dream, Tyner said “he was always in control and he'll go for something similar next.”
