Run The Jewels made a winning debut for Co Kilkenny based trainer John Cahill at Dundalk today, proving a nicely supported winner of the Follow On Twitter @DundalkStadium Handicap (div I).
The son of Lawman was unplaced on three maiden runs for his owner Thomas James and having finished an improved fifth on his sole start for subsequent trainer Yvonne Latta, today score don debut for Cahill.
Slowly from the stalls, Run The Jewels (morning 10/1, opened 11/4 on the show and returned 9/2) was held up in rear and while he was short of room early in the home straight, eventually quickened well to lead in the final furlong and score by a length and three parts from 100/1 Five Zeros
Winning jockey Nathan Crosse later said “he carries his head a bit high and I think he’d only had four runs so he’s plenty of improvement to come.
“He’s a big raw horse and I’d say that surface is plenty quick enough for him. He’ll come on plenty from that and with a bit more racing he might drop his head.
“He travelled lovely into the race and they went plenty hard enough which brought me into the race grand. Ideally he’d like a mile and two.”
