Ruby Walsh secured a pillar-to-post success on Blazing Tempo in the Paulstown Mares Hurdle over two and a half miles at Gowran Park.
The 9/4 favourite, trained by Willie Mullins, stayed on nicely from the last to win by a length and a half from Jessica Harrington’s Burn And Turn (5/1 from 10/1 in the morning). Clarach was travelling well two out and looked to be a big danger, however she found little and had to settle for third at 11/2 for trainer Tony Mullins.
“That mare has a huge appetite for racing. Whether we look for another hurdle like that or switch back to chasing I’m not sure yet,” Willie Mullins said.
“She could come back here in October [6th] for the Grade 2 Gowran Park Champion Chase, but it may come a bit soon so we’ll look at our options.”
Blazing Tempo won the Galway Plate in July 2011.
