The first foal of a point-to-point winning dam, Ronava is from a family of winners including Culmore Native, Finns Cross and Coldwinters and he did his bit for the pedigree today breaking his maiden in the Nick O'Donnell Memorial Handicap Hurdle at Wexford.
Owned, trained and bred by Richard Cotter in Ballynoe, County Cork, Ronava was coming back off a 211 day break and was ridden in this two miler by Jonathan Burke.
The 12/1 chance (from 16s on track) led after four out on his way to an easy thirteen length success over What About Harry
Cotter last tasted success under Rules in the summer of 2010 with Cruising Katie, a four time winning daughter of Beneficial.
Cotter explained: "He had a wind op and it seems to have turned him inside out.
"We will see what he gets and hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on him.
"He will go for something similar again and I'd said he will run again in about two or three weeks. He is the only horse I have in at the moment." (DM & EM)
