Romann swooped late to land the finale for Pat Flynn and Conor Hoban at Dundalk this evening.
Chris Hayes made a bold bid on front-runner Ballycaines as he sought a treble on the night in the second division of the ten furlong handicap.
The leader had a couple of lengths advantage passing the two pole but couldn't hold the late charge of Romann.
Hoban got a good tune from the Holy Roman Emperor gelding as he got up in the closing stages for a length victory at odds of 4/1.
The winner had won over course and distance in November and was fourth nine days later.
Hoban said:- “He did it quite well and the race worked out lovely. He got a good tow into it and from a furlong and a half out I always felt like I was going to get there.
“It’s great to get a first winner in 2021 and especially for Pat. After ending 2020 on a high we’ve made a good start to the new year.”
