Rockview Roman turned back the clock when bridging a gap of well over three years without a win in the Thanks To All Our Sponsors Handicap at Gowran.
The John McConnell-trained gelding won twice on the polytrack at Dundalk back in 2019 and had a spell on the sidelines and a number of placed runs since.
The seven-year-old gelding was well-supported this morning from 18/1 and went off a 15/2 chance against 16 rivals in this extended nine-furlong event.
Siobhan Rutledge had him close to the pace throughout and kept on well up the centre in the straight to get the better of Bigz Belief by half-a-length. Tastyee was a further length and three-quarters away in third.
Rutledge said, “He won on the all-weather and was placed on very soft ground in Galway. He handled the tacky ground really well here today.
“It’s drying out so is quite sticky.
“That’s probably his minimum trip and he stayed on well. I was up handy all the way and I was determined to keep him going.”
