Roberts shines on Ecko
Mr Ecko powered clear in the closing stages to run out an easy winner of the Fegentri Handicap Hurdle at Cork.
Visiting Swedish rider Christopher Roberts produced his mount around the outside to take closer order early in the straight.
Tom Doyle's charge soon battled it out with Face Facts and hit the front from that rival at the second last.
The 12/1 shot was clear at the final flight when producing a prodigious leap, going on to record an 11-length success.
"He did it very well. I've no complaints about the jockey, he got on great with him and the horse jumped very well," said Doyle.
"He might go to Fairyhouse and Punchestown but wouldn't run on good to firm ground.
"He needs a cut. Chasing is his game long term."
19-year-old Roberts is a Science Student in Stockholm which was appropriate on a evening which saw a big crowd in attendance for Cork Student Raceday.
The amateur was partnering his 14th winner having recorded 2 successes in Norway and 11 in his homeland.
