Red Linn ridden by 7lb claimer Dean Curran, sprang a 50/1 surprise in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden.
Colin Keane looked to have ridden the perfect race on Butterfly Island (11/4), who was produced to lead over a furlong out. Dermot Weld’s filly didn’t find a lot in the final furlong, though, and was run down close home.
The 9/4 favourite Chestnutter got caught in a pocket early in the straight before staying on well to be a close third. The winning margins were a head and the same.
Tom Mullins trains the winning debutant, who’s a son of Red Jazz, and said: “He was working well at home with a filly that was placed here a few weeks back.
“I was hoping but with a two-year-old first time out they can do anything. I thought he'd maybe win the next day and it's a nice surprise.
“He's a good solid colt, he's plain and simple. He wanted every yard of the seven furlongs and he'll definitely get a mile. He's a nice tough horse.”
