Rapid Applause will bid to redeem his reputation in the King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
Trained by Michael O'Callaghan, the Royal Applause colt showed smart form as a juvenile, finishing placed in the Anglesey and Round Tower Stakes.
He disappointed on his return to action at Dundalk but an excuse was found so the rest of the season is being looked forward to with optimism.
"I'm delighted with Rapid Applause," said O'Callaghan.
"We had a setback with his comeback run at Dundalk but we were satisfied we had a genuine excuse as he scoped badly so we just put a line through it.
"He'll go to Newmarket for a Listed race on May 16 and we'll try to get him back on track.
"His big target this season is the Jersey Stakes.
"He was a big two-year-old last year and needed to fill his frame.
"He was only beaten three-parts of a length by Cappella Sansevero last year over six but he needed seven then really.
"He wasn't a typical two-year-old which is why he only ran four times."
