Quinlans team up with Pur
The lightly-raced Instant Pur stepped up on previous form to claim the four and five year-old maiden hurdle at Cork.
Former Irish international showjumper Paddy Quinlan saddled the daughter of Pyrus to land the spoils at 16/1.
A flying visit from his nephew Jack made it a family success as the filly was produced to lead at the last and score by two-and-a-half lengths from 40/1 shot Speed Stead.
The winning jockey is based in Newmarket where his father Noel is assistant to another uncle Mick.
The winner had raced three times without distinction on the level but had showed a glimmer of promise when a moderate fourth on her hurdling debut at Punchestown. Duc De Savoie was sent off a warm order (1/1f) for in-form trainer Dermot Weld but could only finish a well beaten fourth.
"I got a present of this mare!," revealed the Ballymore Eustace-based handler afterwards.
"Everything suited her today. She was getting almost two stone off the favourite. I suppose I'll look at a winners' of one now."
Gary Carson
