After finishing a good third behind Bayan at Leopardstown yesterday evening Strandfield Lady went two places better tonight as she took the Come Racing 6th September Handicap under Connor King (first winner since May 19th) for Harry Rogers.
The nine-year-old mare was available at 14/1 last night, opening on-course at just 7’s before going off a 15/2 chance.
Having led in the early stages she was soon headed by Shake The Bucket but remained prominent.
She was ridden and regained the lead three furlongs out, keeping on well under pressure from there to see off persistent challenge of Shake The Bucket by half a length at the line.
The runner-up was returned at 9/1 (touched 12’s on-course) under Tom Madden for his father Niall, while Cassells Rock was a further three and a half lengths back in third under Fran Berry for Tony Martin at 7/1.
Harry Rogers said afterwards: "She is an amazing mare (twelfth career success this evening). I walked the track after dinner and the ground was safe so we decided to run.
"The chap on her back is not too bad. She is in at Killarney in an amateur race on Tuesday and if it cuts up she might run."
