Dermot Weld introduced a potentially smart prospect in the form of the Juddmonte owned Purview who easily won at the first time of asking in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden at Dundalk.
A son of Kingman, who holds an entry in the Irish Derby, the colt was backed into 7/4f to beat a couple of promising opponents with previous experience.
In the race itself, jockey Chris Hayes was always in the leading three aboard the Weld trained colt, moving through on the inside rail to take over in front over three furlongs out.
Pushed along entering the home straight, Purview stretched clear of his rivals in impressive fashion to win by two-and-three-quarter lengths.
Chris Hayes said: "He's a nice horse, we've always liked him.
"He was ready to run a couple of weeks ago, but he's a big frame of a horse and we just didn't think it was the right thing to do to run him on deep ground on the grass.
"He moved beautifully on this surface and he'll handle a dig in the ground.
"The better the race, the better he'll be.
"It wasn't ideal or our plan to make it. He has a lovely big action and rather than complicate it (he went on). He got a little bit lonely but I love the way when they came to him, he took down the back to pull up.
"I'd like to think he is one for the second Derby Trial at Leopardstown. The ground would be a bit nicer. He'll have a little bit more time to strengthen up.
"I think a lot of him."
