- Puncher lands Ballysax Stakes
Puncher lands Ballysax Stakes
Jim Bolger was enjoying a good afternoon after his charge Puncher Clynch landed the feature race, the P.W McGrath Memorial Ballysax Group 3 Stakes making it a double on the day for connections.
Kevin Manning who took riding honours was in front from two furlongs out and his charge battled well to see off all challengers inside the final furlong and kept on to score by a short head.
Winning trainer Bolger stated afterwards: "He's a very versatile type as in he gets a mile and a half and he could be dropped back to nine furlongs."
"He probably wouldn't be able to cope with Group 1 company just yet but he'd certainly be able to cope with a level below."
"He doesn't seem to mind the ground or surface. He will probably have an easy week or two of it after that."
